Med. student set to defend Rose City Run crown

THOMASVILLE — Last year’s Rose City Run champion is ready to defend his crown.

Two-time winner Chris Lake will return to Thomasville on Saturday to try to win his third straight Run title. Lake has cruised to victories the last two year. Whether Lake is able to make it look easy again remains to be seen.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Lake said. “I had a new experience this year. Currently, I’m a first-year medical student here at (University of Florida). This year, it’s kind of been a big adjustment with that. Really, I’m just looking forward to coming back home and being with friends and family.

“I got a letter probably about three weeks ago, right at the beginning of April, from the race directors. I was enthusiastic about coming back up because it’s really nice going up there. They do a great job with the race.

“It’s just one of those races I don’t want to miss every year.”

Lake quickly discovered that balancing school work with time to exercise can be challenging. He was also determined to make it happen, however.
