THOMASVILLE — Shots were aplenty Tuesday night for Thomas County Central’s girls.
So too were the goals scored.
In the first round of the Region 1-AAAA playoffs at Thomas County Stadium, the Lady Jackets sprinted out to a 4-0 halftime lead and knocked off Jones County 10-0.
“The girls pass extremely well,” Central girls coach Nick Haskins said. “They’re playing well as a team. We didn’t finish as well tonight, as we would have liked to.
“But the girls came together and played a good game. We got the result we wanted.”
Central will play in the semifinal round at home on Thursday against the winner of Harris County and Bainbridge.
Alyssa Denton and Erika Pendland paced Central’s offensive attack with three goals each. Ivey Singletary added two goals and one assist. Christen Terrebrood and Taylor Benton notched a goal each for Central will possessed the ball very well on Jones County’s side of the field.
Keeper Raven Jones recorded the shutout for the Lady Jackets as she notched two saves.
“Anytime we can keep our goalie bored, we’re doing a good job,” said Haskins, who credited her offense’s ability to possess the ball. “We always look forward to keeping our goalie bored.”
As Central’s girls cruised to their first-round win, Central’s boys also recorded a shutout.
Central knocked off Westside-Macon 3-0 to advance to the second round on Friday at Thomas County Stadium against either Lee County or Hardaway.
“We came out and did a professional job,” Central coach Jonathan Carroll said.
Montavious Diaz paced Central with two goals. Tyler Strickland added the other goal for the Yellow Jackets.
