THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central had a 5-0 lead after the first inning Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets weren’t able to hold off a furious Bainbridge rally, however.
The Bearcats scored six in the third inning and rallied to a 9-6 win in Region 1-AAAA play.
Central (2-5, 1-1) starting pitcher Josh Gobble pitched five innings, allowing eight runs. He had control issues in the third inning. Gobble walked three batters, including one with the bases loaded. The Bearcats added to the trouble with a pair of two-run doubles and an RBI single to give Bainbridge the lead.
“(Josh) got into a little trouble finding the strike zone,” Central coach Chad Parkerson said.
The Yellow Jackets got off to an excellent start at the plate Tuesday night. Caleb Bryson belted a long two-run home run. It’s the senior’s first RBIs of the season. Later in the innings, sophomore Kyle Riley laced a two-run single in his first at-bat.
Central finished with just six hits, though, and six strikeouts.
“Offensively, we’ve got to put pressure on the defense,” Parkerson said. “We can’t expect people to relax and roll over.”
Central was without one of its top hitters, first baseman Will Taylor, who was out sick.
The Yellow Jackets will play again on Friday at home against Region 1-AAAA foe Harris County.
