THOMASVILLE —
What started ugly ended beautifully for the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs Friday night.
After scoring just 11 points against Region 1-AA foe Albany in the first half, Thomasville scored 20 after intermission and held on for a 31-28 victory.
“I told them (at halftime) it was an ugly first half, and for it to be as ugly as it was and be leading, we’ll take it,” Thomasville coach Thomas McAboy said. “But we had to come out and play a better second half.”
Thomasville (5-14, 4-5) scored just four field goals and sank 3-of-9 from the charity stripe in the first half. Albany was just as worse. It only made four shots and missed 9-of-10 free throws.
In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs’ offense hit another gear thanks to Laneshia Douglass. She scored nine of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter. Douglass consistently attacked the basket and also hit a key 3-pointer.
“That was our offense. It’s funny, we always tell her she’s the most athletic person on the team,” McAboy said. “She attacked the basket and finished. The first half she was looking for fouls and not focusing on shots.”
