Warriors ready for postseason

THOMASVILLE — A youthful Brookwood squad entered the season with question marks.

It ended the regular season with a playoff berth.

The surging Warriors, who won two of their final three games to earn a GISA Class AA playoff berth, will travel to John Milledge Academy on Friday for the first round of the postseason.

“I couldn't be more proud of these guys about the way they've excelled under the adversity of being so young,” Brookwood coach Robert East said. “Yes, it is a privilege to still be playing ball this time of year. However, we pat ourselves on the back when it's all said and done. We're going to try to go after a win as we do every week.”

With a team consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores, the Warriors began the season 1-6. According to East, the turning point in the season came on an Oct. 5 game at Region 3 foe Westwood. Though Brookwood lost 48-21, it went toe-to-toe with a two-time defending state champion.

“We really clicked offensively against a very good team. With the exception of a couple of broken assignments on big plays, we were very good defensively,” East said. “I think that really gave us the confidence moving forward. We turned around the next week and played a very competitive ballgame against a very good Southwest Georgia (Academy) team, where if we hadn't made mistakes, we would have come away with a win. The following week it snowballed into a win against Terrell.

“It's continued to snowball in a positive way for us.”
