THOMASVILLE —
Jacqueria Dunbar was clutch for the Thomasville Lady Bulldogs Friday night.
In a key Region 1-AA game against the Pelham Lady Hornets, Dunbar scored 20 points, hit the game-winning free throw with 0.3 remaining and lifted Thomasville to a 40-39 overtime victory.
“It’s her team,” Thomasville coach Thomas McAboy said. “She’s the person that makes this team go.”
Dunbar was unstoppable on offense and defense. Of her game-high 20 points, 15 came off five 3-pointers for the senior. Dunbar also recorded a couple of key steals, one of which led to a layup that tied the score 39-39.
On Pelham’s ensuing possession, Dunbar notched another steal under the Pelham’s basket. Thomasville tried a game-winning shot that missed but Dunbar picked up the rebound. She tried to put back a shot but was fouled just before the buzzer sounded.
Dunbar sank the first free throw and missed the second.
