THOMASVILLE —
The kings of Region 1-AA are ready to defend their crown.
The Thomasville Bulldogs, who have finished first atop the region regular season standings the past three years, can move closer to a fourth straight title with a win tonight against Albany. The squads are tied for the region lead with just one loss. Thomasville, which has already defeated Albany once this season, can all but sew up the regular season title with a victory. Despite so much hinging on tonight’s outcome, the Bulldogs aren’t wavering from the approach they’ve had all season.
“We try to come in and do the same things we’ve been doing all year,” Thomasville coach Ben Tillman said. “We try not to change anything. As I’ve said before, I’m an old country guy. At this time of year, the hay is already in the barn. We’re just trying to do the things that we’ve been doing all season.”
The Bulldogs had to eke out a last-second win at Albany in their first meeting. Thomasville collected a 37-36 win after scoring five points in the final 38 seconds. Tillman understands a season sweep won’t be easy for his Bulldogs.
