THOMASVILLE —
Thomas University's Jessica MacPhee thought her golfing season ended in the Association of Independent Institutions Conference tournament.
Three weeks later, the junior is bound for nationals.
After an unexpected withdrawal from another golfer, MacPhee was selected to compete in next week's NAIA tournament in Greenville, Tenn.
It was a pleasant surprise for MacPhee who already had returned home to British Columbia, Canada.
"I'm really honored to go play and represent my school," MacPhee said.
MacPhee will return to the United States on Saturday when she flies into Atlanta. She will then travel to Greenville for the tournament which will be held May 15-18.
MacPhee finished second at the conference tournament in Prescott, Ariz. firing a 77 and 73 in two days. According to TU coach Mike Harper, a similar performance is not out of the question next week.
"If she plays good, she legitamately could compete for the low medalist," Harper said. "There are All-Americans who will be there. She does not have All-American status, but she's got the ability to go out and shoot 1 or 2-under-par every round. She's shot under par some rounds. She's not put them together back to back to back. But she's got the ability to do that."
