Central sweeps Cairo

CAIRO — Thomas County Central’s boys won a thriller in Cairo Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets eked out a 47-46 victory over the Syrupmakers to improve to 6-6.

Allen Wade led the Yellow Jackets with 13 points. Austin Bryant added 10 for Central.

Central will host Northside-Columbus on Friday.

Cairo dropped to 2-11.

Central’s girls were also victorious, pulling away from the Syrupmaids (3-11) for a 57-41 win.

Central, which led most of the game, had its eight-point halftime lead cut to 39-34 early in the fourth quarter. But the Lady Jackets outscored the Syrupmaids 18-7 down the stretch to seal the win.

Leading the Lady Jackets (6-6) was Chelsea McIntyre. She scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter to pace Central.

“We’ve been working with her on squaring up the layup,” Central coach Deatrice Hose said. “She certainly stepped up in this game.”
