Syrupmakers tame Cougars

CAIRO — An 18-play, 93-yard drive sealed Cairo’s win Friday night.

It also pulled the Syrupmakers to within one win of a second straight Region 1-AAA title.

Leading 10-0 in the second half, the Syrupmakers chewed up almost 12 minutes of possession that ended in a Terrell Cason 13-yard touchdown run. It gave Cairo a 17-0 edge over Crisp County and ultimately led to a 24-0 win at West Thomas Stadium.

Cairo will host Americus-Sumter next week to determine the region champion.

Cason ran for 64 of Cairo’s 191 yards. Steven Bench and Drake Robertson each added 38 yards on the ground.
