Kadis leading Dance Dawgs
THOMASVILLE — People know Reneau Kadis as “Sweet Pea.”
This year they can call her “Captain Sweet Pea.”
The Brookwood graduate is finishing her senior year at the University of Georgia. The year was made extra special when Kadis was named captain of the Georgia Dance Dawgs.
“It was definitely an honor,” Kadis said. “I always looked up to the captains when I was a freshman and sophomore. They kind of set the tone for the team.”
Being captain, Kadis is responsible for developing dance routines to be used at different events. Kadis has been part of the team her entire college career. The team performs for gymnastics meets, men’s basketball games and women’s basketball games. The schedule can be hectic for Kadis and her fellow dancers.
“At first, it was really hard juggling it all my freshman year, juggling school and my sorority and dance,” Kadis said. “It was kind of overwhelming. I definitely adjusted to it. Now, it’s just like life, crazy life.”
This past week, the Dance Dawgs performed Wednesday-Sunday. Most weeks they’ll perform three to five times.
“We have practice or workouts almost every day. It’s a daily thing. As soon as the season starts, it can be twice a day sometimes,” Kadis said. “It’s part of my life. I love it.
“It’s a performing kind of team versus a competing team. It’s all positive. The fans love it,” Kadis added. “This is definitely a whole new approach to dance. It’s just a lot more relaxed, fun. We want to be good. We are good. It’s just for the fans and for the team versus competition.”
Dancing is nothing new to Kadis. She has been performing since age 3. She was also part of the F.I.R.M. Dance Company in Cairo.
“That’s really where I developed a love and passion for it,” Kadis said.
It’s a love Kadis hopes won’t go away even as she finishes up college.
“I’m going to try to take it professionally. I don’t know in what field or in what arena I’ll be doing it. I’m going to try to keep dancing a little longer,” Kadis noted.
Among Kadis’ options are going to New York or possibly trying out to be an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader.
“The next three or four months, a lot of decisions will be made,” Kadis said.

THS, Central, Cairo attend Bainbridge camp
Footballs were flying all over the practice fields adjacent to Bainbridge High School Thursday afternoon.
Thomasville, Thomas County Central, Cairo, along with two schools from Alabama and Leon (Fla.) participated in a passing camp at Bainbridge. The three-hour long passing league drew rave reviews from those in attendance. -
Yellow Jackets making strides in passing leagues
Another summer day gone by, another passing session under Thomas County Central’s belt.
The Yellow Jackets hosted a 7-on-7 passing league with Lowndes Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams threw for almost two hours at Central practice field. With Central set to compete in its last passing league today in Bainbridge, head coach Bill Shaver likes the progression his team has made on offense and defense. -
Folsom galloping ahead
Horseback riding came natural for Landrie Folsom — so, too, has winning.
It’s only natural that a national championship is in the Thomasville resident’s future, right?
That’s the dream Folsom will carry with her this weekend when she participates in the Junior Hunter Finals and Hunterdon Cup Equitation to be held in Lexington, KY on Aug. 2-5. Folsom is excited about participating on the national stage but understands how tough the competition will be. -
Drew still undecided about collegiate future
Ray Drew is still undecided.
By all accounts, Thomas County Central fans will have to wait until Signing Day, 2011, to find out where the highly-recruited senior will play collegiate football.
Speaking five days before the start of fall practice, the Central senior gave no hints as to who his favorites were. He’d like to keep it that way. -
East has mixed feelings with Brookwood’s play in camp
The run-oriented Brookwood Warriors got an extensive look at their passing attack this week.
The Warriors attended a Fellowship of Christian Athletes passing camp at Georgia Southern, Monday-Wednesday. Brookwood competed in a passing league that included such schools as Cook, Irwin County, South Effingham and Long County. -
Cairo passing camp a success
Cairo’s eight-team football camp continues to be a passing success.
Thomas County Central, Bainbridge and Valdosta joined the Syrupmakers and four schools from Florida to compete in 7-on-7 drills Thursday morning. - Bombers to host tournament

The Thomasville YMCA took 26 swimmers to Tifton on for the 2010 GRPA district swim meet. All qualified for the state championships in Tifton in two weeks.
