Syrupmakers look to stay hot against Trojans

THOMASVILLE — Cairo surged to the Region 1-AAAA championship last week.

Don’t expect the Syrupmakers to let the foot off the gas tonight in their regular season finale against Dougherty.

“Our strategy is always the same,” Cairo coach Tom Fallaw said. “We’re always going to try to get better. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing. If we’re playing for a region championship or playing in the state playoffs, our goal is to get our team better. That’s the way we’re heading into this game. We’re going to try to do the same thing this week.”

Cairo has won six straight following a 1-2 start. The streaking Syrupmakes have won 22 consecutive region games, capped by last week’s thrilling 28-20 win over Monroe. The win gave the Syrupmakers their third straight region title.

“It felt good. We’re proud of these kids,” Fallaw said. “They’ve done a good job. I’m glad to see them achieve something.”

The win over the Tornadoes was one of the Syrupmakers’ best games of the season. They held a highly explosive offense to 20 points. P.J. Davis scored three touchdowns. Donald Thomas connected with Reese Wooten for a touchdown pass. Cairo forced three turnovers.
