Lake laps field en route to third straight Run win

THOMASVILLE — Chris Lake was finally pushed in the Rose City Run on Saturday. Then the race hit Smith Avenue.

From there, the two-time defending champ slowly pulled away from the field en route to a third straight win in a time of 32:59.

“I knew I just wanted to do what I could do given the conditions,” Lake said. “My biggest goal was to run a smarter race this year, more even. I did just that.

“Today wasn’t a (personal record) but, given the conditions and everything, I’m happy. My goal was to break 33 (minutes).”

Lake beat second place by almost a minute and a half. He slowly pulled away from the field as the race turned onto Smith Avenue. Lake was all by himself as he turned the corner at Pinetree Boulevard.

“There was someone behind me, I think, not too far, maybe 50 yards back for the first mile and a half,” Lake said. “I just wanted to run against the clock and just make sure I got the same pace I had last year. That was pretty much my big motivation.”
