Yellow Jackets win pair in tourney
BAINBRIDGE — Thomas County Central’s boys basketball team defeated Wakulla (Fla.) 68-52 on Saturday in the Georgia-Florida Shootout in Bainbridge.
Allen Wade paced Central (3-3) with 16 points. Denzel Grogen added 11, and Matt Priest finished with 10.
Central’s win on Saturday followed a 57-53 victory over Cottondale (Fla.) on Friday.
Priest led the Yellow Jackets with 17 points. Teammate Devin Jones added 10.
Cairo wins wrestling tourney
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Cairo Syrupmakers wrestling team won the second annual BL Fletcher Invitational at Godby High school in Tallahassee, Fla. on Saturday for the second straight year. Cairo tallied 146 points, followed by Leon High School (Fla.) with 96 points, Godby High School (Fla.) with 89 points and Rickards High School (Fla.) with 88 points.
The Syrupmakers had seven champions crowned. They were Ryan Roberson at 120 pounds, Mateo Francisco at 126 pounds, Wilder Elliott at 132 pounds, Luke Elkins at 138 pounds, Reggie Burden at 145 pounds, Paul Coleman at 160 pounds and Marcus Gaines at 170 pounds.
The Syrupmakers had two to finish in second place. They were Harley Ponder at 106 pounds and Maurice Gaines at 285 pounds.
