It's time to jettison political correctness

Lloyd Eckberg

There seems to be a real concern among many citizens about the direction this country is pursuing.

Under the banner of a socialistic agenda, the art of “political correctness” is stifling the imagination of our people and attempting to bring forth a pure democracy that is counter to the Constitution and ambition of a nation that has transformed the world in the last 233 years.

Terms of yore you don’t hear much about these days that are descriptions of civil unrest are “sedition” and “treason.” They have lost out to political correctness as “appeasement” and “compromise” become more and more popular within the political establishment.

According to the dictionary, “sedition” is, "Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state.” “Treason is, "Violation of allegiance to one’s own country by waging war against it or consciously or purposely acting to aid its enemies.”

The recent tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas, has brought out very forcefully the fact that domestic terrorism is now a problem for all Americans to be concerned with. The first terrorism attack on the homeland since 9/11 is cause for the practice of political correctness to be abandoned and to let the world know that our Constitution was not designed to harbor and pacify those who would destroy it.

During the late 1930s, it was widely understood that we were headed for a war with the Germans. While it was the Japanese that brought everything to a head, the underlying thinking was that Russia was ultimately going to be the country we would have to go to deal with.

When WWII began, the country came together and the language and acts of sedition and treason were never evident in public. Treason, especially, was a very serious crime and anyone displaying any unpatriotic tendencies would be severely dealt with. There would be no extensive investigations or inquests. Jail would have been the immediate reward.

Since that time, I can’t remember anyone being tried for treason on American soil. Political correctness has become the calling card of the past several administrations and our effectiveness to govern has been severely compromised.

The banner of political correctness must be lowered, and not just to half-staff. It must be dismantled and become a relic of a time when this country was at peace with its conscience.

A new world of demonic thought and action known as radical Muslim extremism is now in play.

It is not going away and it is time for the leaders and influence peddlers of America to recognize the terrible consequences of allowing this movement to fester and grow in this country.

Imams must not be allowed to continue to spew hate and anti-American rhetoric that incites revolution that is beginning to creep in and corrupt our schools, our government and our philanthropic institutions.

If mainline Muslim theology is allowed to flourish in this country, then it is high time for well-meaning Muslims to take to the airways and denounce their neo-cousins and, by example, make sure that no mosque in America is allowed to promote Islamic radicalism.

It is time for leaders in this country to stand up and be counted. It is time to forget about political correctness and govern according to the will of the people regardless of who may or may not get hurt or benefit from their actions.

Personally I do not see a time or do I see how Muslims, Christians and Jews can assimilate in the United States and allow the great American democratic experiment to continue to flourish.

Christians and Jews over the centuries have made the experiment work and will continue to do so, but I must ponder and wonder about the future.

Just as Latin has become a dead language, so must the practice of political correctness follow the same demise.
