Rant & Rave Nov. 11, 2009

“Sports alert! Pelham in the playoffs. They play Greenville Friday night. Go Hornets."

“Why should the Fort Hood, Texas, shooter get a trial? He was seen by many pulling the trigger and was shot by the police to stop any further killing. He's guilty. He doesn't need a trial. Hang him."

“If the government takes over health care, I wonder if the emergency room will close for retirement parties?"

“I'm happy the Thomas County Health Department recognized one of its own employees. God bless the Thomas County Health Department and God bless America, and thanks to all who were invited."

“We have a federal government that is incompetent, a president who is a liar and a bankrupt country owing $11 trillion. Our government cannot operate any federal programs and yet it is creating more and more entitlement programs. We need to get rid of Sanford Bishop."

“Kudos to Lloyd Eckberg. You hit the nail on the head. Your column was enlightening. We've got to fight for our rights. Please continue your writings."

“Some nerve this paper has to publish criticisms of the health department for slowing down for a few minutes to honor a deserving retiree but then abandons its duty to keep the public informed by closing early out of a fear of a rainstorm. Where was any local coverage of the impending storm?”

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Times-Enterprise did not close early on Monday or Tuesday. It went to press earlier than usual on those days in order to give its carriers a head start in case they encountered difficulties on the area’s many dirt roads that become slick in rainy weather. Tuesday’s edition included a front-page AP story about the storm, which posed no serious danger to our area.

“People who fail to see that what Congress and President Obama are up to is unconstitutional are perfectly content to be stooges of the government. It is ironic that they are willing to be chained to government programs instead of working to free themselves and their potential to succeed.”
