Get heads out of sand

— When I offered my thoughts last week on the proposed mosque construction near Ground Zero in New York, some predictably felt I was being a little intolerant.

I thought I had clearly stated that I was quite tolerant of anyone who wanted to come to our nation and be an American as an American, not under the guise of an American who actually wants to hurt because of their religion.

Sometimes, it’s nice to find out just right you were.

The Center for Security Policy recently unveiled a powerful 1-minute video opposing the construction of the 13-story, $100 million mega-mosque near the hallowed ground of the World Trade Center.

The script of the video reads as follows:

“After Muslims conquered Jerusalem, they built a mosque on the Jews’ most holy site.

“And after Muslims conquered Istanbul, they transformed St. Sophia Basilica into a mega-mosque.

“And when the Moors made Cordoba the capital of their Muslim kingdom in Spain, a Christian cathedral was turned into the third-largest mosque complex in the world.

“Throughout history, Muslims have built mosques as permanent symbols of their victories.

“Now, some Muslims want to build a thirteen-story mega-mosque near the site where terrorists murdered nearly 3,000 people on 9/11.

“Those terrorists believed that Sharia, the brutal, supremacist Islamic doctrine that is the law of Saudi Arabia and Iran, requires them to engage in holy war, until all against them surrender.

“If we let them defile Ground Zero with a beachhead for Sharia, we will do little more than validate their sense of victory from 9/11, and encourage future attacks within America.”

Don’t know anything about this “Sharia,” you say? Basically, it rejects core tenets of American constitutional republicanism: for example, individual liberty, freedom of conscience, freedom to govern ourselves irrespective of any theocratic code, equality of men and women, equality of Muslims and non-Muslims, and economic liberty, including the uses of private property (in Islam, owners hold property only as a custodians for the umma, the universal Muslim nation, and are accountable to the Islamic state regarding its use).

Sharia prohibits the preaching of creeds other than Islam, the renunciation of Islam, any actions that divide the umma, and condemns homosexuality. Its penalties are draconian, including savagely executed death sentences for apostates, homosexuals, and adulterers.

And, as if that weren’t enough, Abdul Sharif, the imam who is promoting this mosque, has publicly declared that he seeks to “bring Sharia to America.”

Make no mistake about it — this isn’t a mere test of our tolerance. It is a blatant test of our resolve as a people and a nation.

 No mosque at Ground Zero!
