John Thomas ÒTommyÓ Cumbie



Services for John Thomas ÒTommyÓ Cumbie, 64, of Cairo, are 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home. Rev. Wendell Hollingsworth and Rev. Richard Albritton will officiate and interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Mr. Cumbie died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his residence in Cairo. Active pallbearers will be Doug Smith, Chuck Hanks, Trent Stewart, Chris Daniels, Edward Chester, Brandon Young and Joe Ponder. Mr. Cumbie was born Dec. 7, 1945, in Cairo, to parents Effie Dozier Cumbie, who survives, and the late Riley Mason Cumbie. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Effie D. Cumbie of Cairo; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Marie Cumbie of Cairo, Donald and Mable Cumbie of Whigham; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jerry Pearce of Cairo; nieces, Kim and Dean Whitley, Shannon and Chris Daniels, Kristie and Chuck Hanks, Michelle Hudson and Johnnie, and Kathy Brown and Doug; nephews, Riley Cumbie, Jimmy and Gina Cumbie, Scotty and Heidi Cumbie and John Goff, all of Cairo; and, 17 great nieces and nephews. Mr. Cumbie was preceded in death by his father, Riley Mason Cumbie. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Guests may sign the online register at www.clarkfuneral.com.
