A memorial and celebration of Phil Myers Jr.’s life will be on his birthday, Feb. 10, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the Dawson Street United Methodist church. Mr. Myers, 86, of Thomasville and formerly of Conyers, died on Dec. 29, 2009. He was born on Feb. 10, 1923. He was the husband of Meg Richards Myers of Thomasville. They moved from Navarre, Fla., back to Thomasville in 2004. Mr. Myers was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herchel Myers of Atlanta. He was a member of the Dawson Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Myers graduated from Kirkwood Tech High School of Atlanta and attended Georgia State College. He joined the Navy in December of 1941, served on the USS Stanley, attended submarine school and served on the USS Pon Pom. After World War II, Mr. Myers began his career at Southern Bell and later retired after 35 years from AT&T.; Mr. Myers loved to be surrounded by people. He was an avid golfer and hunter. Survivors include his wife, Meg Myers of Thomasville; a son, Phil Myers III (Tracey) of Burk, Va.; a daughter, Ginger Hunding (Jim) of Hiram; a daughter, Tanya Myers of Covington; a stepdaughter, Mary Marshall McGalliard (Tommy) of Thomasville; a stepson, John Richards (Cindy) of Boston; 11 grandchildren; and, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Terrell of Conyers, a daughter, Phyillis Myers Burdette of Atlanta, and a stepson, Jim Richards Jr. of Navarre, Fla. Mr. Myers requested donations be made to Southwest Georgia Hospice of Thomasville and the Thomas County Public Library.
