Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Cromartie Odom

— Jacqueline “Jackie” Cromartie Odom, 88, of Clarksville, Ga., and formerly of Moultrie, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Halcyon Hospice in Cumming, Ga. Graveside rites will be 2 p.m., today, March 2, at Westview Cemetery, with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. She was born Oct. 16, 1924, in Boston, Ga., one of nine children, to the late Ada Bowen and Sandy “Adrain Alexander” Cromartie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was the wife of Phillip Henry Odom Jr. of Moultrie and she lived most of her life in Moultrie. She graduated from Women’s College of Georgia at Milledgeville. She taught English in the Moultrie public schools for 35 years. She was a member of Colquitt County Retired Educators, Delta Kappa Gamma and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an active member of the Moultrie First Presbyterian Church, where she received the Honorary Life Membership of the Women of the Church. She was most proud of and blessed to serve in the church nursery for many, many years, her family said. “Home Instead Senior Care of Blairsville, Ga., operated by Andrew Williams, provided guidance, support, and quality sitters for which the family is thankful,” said the family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Lt. Col. Marion Cromartie, Tech. Sgt. Byron Cromartie, Edwin Cromartie, Adrain Cromartie; and her sisters, Mary Francis Cromartie, who died as an infant, Gladys C. Adams, Ina Mae Cromartie and Ada C. Clements. She is survived by her son, Marion Phillip Odom of CorneIia, Ga.; her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Odom Jones and Glenn Jones of Clarkesville, Ga.; her grandsons, Geoffrey Kip Jones of Commerce, Ga., and Jeb Stuart Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; her sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Jeter of Valdosta, Ga.; a number of nieces and nephews; special nurses, Belinda Whitmire and Janet Smith; and Chaplain Jeff Brookshire of Halcyon Hospice. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., today, at Cobb Funeral Chapel. The family requests that donations in memory of Jackie Odom be made to the Moultrie First Presbyterian Church or to Halcyon Hospice in Cumming, Ga.
