Bobbie Hancock Phillips



Services for Bobbie Hancock Phillips, 81, of Plains, are at 11 a.m. Nov. 24, 2009, at Banks Funeral home Chapel in Sylvester, with the Rev. Joe Carr officiating. Interment is at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Phillips died Nov. 20, 2009, at Magnolia Manor in Americus. Born March 19, 1928, in Worth County, she was a daughter of the late Grace Callaway Hancock and Robert Hancock. Mrs. Philips had lived in Plains for the past three years, having moved there from Albany, where she lived for many years. She was a legal secretary for Robert Langstaff for 30 years. In 1978, she was awarded the Legal Secretary of the Year of the Legal Secretaries Association. In 1989, she was awarded the Dougherty County Circuit Bar Association Support Staff Award. She enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, playing the piano and being a ham radio operator. Mrs. Philips was a member of First Baptist Church in Thomasville and a former longtime member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. (Ray) Phillips, Plains; daughters, Rhenda Phillips Coxwell (Ed), Albany, Anita Phillips Davis (Tommy), Havana, Fla.; grandchildren, Tim Coxwell (Edye), Beth Kinney (Buck), Elizabeth Davis Thorp (Jason), Katherine Davis, Jed Davis, Amy Davis Ashton (Garrett); great-grandchildren, Justin Bostock, Emily Coxwell, Caroline Coxwell, Kolden Kinney, Will Kinney, Taylor Thorp, A.J. Thorp, Kyler Thorp. For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Southwest Georgia, Chapter 1512, Gillionville Road, Suite 1, Albany, Ga. 31707 or the American Cancer Association, 323 Pine Ave., Albany, Ga. 31701. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Banks Funeral Home in Sylvester. — Banks Funeral Home
