Sandra Smith



Services for Sandra Smith are at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. I.L. Mullins will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Sandra Smith was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Thomasville, Ga., to the late Guyte Smith Sr. and Lucille Murphy Smith. At an early age she joined New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to First Missionary Baptist Church to be with her family. She served on Usher Board No. 3 and the Guiding Light Club. She was a graduate of Douglass High School, class of 1962. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Henry County Heritage Senior Center. She worked at Southwestern State Hospital for 30 years before retiring. She leaves to mourn in her passing her mother, Marie (Jimmy) Thurman, Bessie Moore, and another mother Rosamond Carley, and god parents Willie and Mary Frances Mitchell; sons, Derrick (Bridget) Smith, Stanley (Katrina Howard) Smith both of Thomasville; her loving devoted daughter, Tiffany Smith of McDonough, Ga.; a father to her children, James Baker; nine grandchildren, Cameron Smith, D'Ericka Smith, Derrick Smith Jr., Lakesha Smith, D'Andre Smith, D'Angelo Smith, Courtney Smith, Cayla Smith, and Christopher Smith; one great-grandson, Antwan Smith; other grandchildren, Whitney and Janitra Bean, Logan Thompson, and Kenyatta, Kendra and Kenara Carruthers, Brianna and Kristen Allen, and Macahya Byrd; siblings, John Murphy, Lonnie (Johnny) Murphy, Ira L. Flowers, Harriet (Willie) Youmas, Guyte Smith Jr., Shirley Weaver Jackson, Sandra (Jessie) Mathis of Thomasville, Ga., Letoy (Janice) Harris of Fayetteville, N.C., Ellen Frances Duncan, Glen Allen of Virginia, David (Catherine) Burke of New Jersey, Susie Pearl Tillman of New York, Gertrude Dunlop of Atlanta, Ga.; her nieces and nephews whom she raised as her own, Stephanie ÒKayÓ Thompson of Thomasville, Ga., Master Hiram (Claudia) Thompson Jr. of Suffolk, Va.; Anthony (Maryland) Thompson of Kennesaw, Ga., Stephan (Kelly Bojan) Thompson of Chicago, Ill., Quanda (Merrill) Baker of Glen Allen, Va., Lisa Jackson King of Stone Mountain, Ga., Keesha (Daryl) Mitchell of Moultrie, Ga.; Danielle Thompson, Janquise Wilson, Deshira Thompson, Hiram Bryant Thompson, Logan Thompson, Edward Harris, Latonya Williams, Shavon Murphy, John Murphy, Jr., Chansidy (Shan) Daniels, Daryl (Audrea) Murphy, Letoy Harris III, Janice Harris, Karrea Driver, Jobe (Amber) Crawford, Jerron (Jackie) Crawford, Hope (Jarvis) Flowers-Ellis, , LaNita Dennis, Akeem Brooks, Pamela Carruthers, and Audrea (Blakely) Kendall. Her aunts Amy Murphy, Evelena Thurman, Ida Moore; her other children, Sharonda Wilson, Carla Malone, Kim Wyche, Crystal Ross, Calesia Grissom, Sachel Andrews, Decaster Gatlin, Jimmy Mack, Sedrick Mack, and Jackie Hicks; her other siblings, Dr. Donnell Carley, Lucille Bell, Pansy Williams, Barbara Wilson, Myrtice Davis, Fannie Amis, Lula Bell Hill, Jewel Harris, Earlene (Herbert) Williams, Rudolph and Elizabeth Elzy, Eugene and Charity Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Simpson, Susan Carley, Armogene Carley Archer, Pie Pressley; friends, Sgt. Major Dwight Mack, David Roan, Gail Carley, Brenda ÒTightÓ Denson, Latresa Bushware, Rene Wade, Della Cromartie, Sandra Lomax and Springle children. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Carolyn ÒJudyÓ Thompson, Ethel ÒCookieÓ Crawford, Sheila Smith Driver; a brother, Larry Smith; a brother-in-law, Hiram Thompson Sr.; and a god mother Sarah M. Springle. The viewing is from 1 to 8:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour Tuesday at the church. Ñ Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
