Services for Rita May Scott Cook, 78, of Thomasville, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Cook died on Saturday, Nov. 14, in Duluth. Born April 16, 1931, in Montgomery, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Burton Alcott and Orrie May Munnerlyn Scott. Growing up in Atlanta, she was a 1950 graduate of Bass High School and a 1954 graduate of Agnes Scott College with a degree in mathematics. On Sept. 3, 1955, in Montgomery, she married the late Carroll Edward Cook. In 1960, she and Mr. Cook founded Cook Real Estate Agency. She helped in the operation of the business and performed many tasks, including drawing house plans and selling of real estate as an associate broker. After Mr. Cook’s death, she continued to operate Cook Investments. She also worked for the Social Security Administration for eight years. Mrs. Cook was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Thomasville. Survivors include a son, Carroll Edward “Eddie” Cook of Norcross; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Wayne and Mary Cook of Thomasville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda May Cook Burton and Van Burton of Loganville; and, four grandchildren, Alyssa Nicole Burton, Jennilee Grace Burton, Madison Elizabeth Cook and Camille Annette Cook. She was preceded in death by a brother, Burton Alcott Scott Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ Scientist, 302 N. Dawson Street, Thomasville, Ga., 31792.
