James (Jack) McBride Sr.



Services for James (Jack) McBride Sr., 81, of Thomasville are at 2 p.m., Nov. 1, 2009, at St. James Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Jimmy Simmons and Elder Moses Cochran will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Mr. McBride died Oct. 23 at Brooks County Hospital. Born May 2, 1928, in Attapulgus, Ga., he was son of Eugene McBride and Martha White. On May 29, 1987, in Thomasville, he married Mattie Lou Myrick. He attended school in McRaeville, Ga. and was employed by Balfour Lumber Co. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Lou McBride of Thomasville; daughters, Jacquelyn (Alonzo) Moody of Weldon, N.C., Alhea McBride, Theresa (Derrick) McBride Jones, Rosina (Ceasar) McBride-Horne all of Miami, Fla.; son, James (Charlene) McBride of Miami; stepsons, Anthony Williams, Terry Williams both of Miami, Joseph (Georgia) Ponder Jr. of Columbus; stepdaughters, Carolyn (Herbert) Johnson of Thomasville, Rosalyn Williams of Miami, Fla.; stepson, Frankie Ponder of Thomasville; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends; brothers-in-law, Issac Grice of Attapulgus, Willie Mike of Tampa, Fla.; devoted friends, Cecil Hutchins, Arthur Hadley, Damon Graham Sr. and William Sapp. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Lee Grice; a daughter, Laverne McBride; three stepsons, Don Williams, Larry Williams, Joseph Moore Jr.; parents, Eugene McBride and Martha White. A wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. The viewing is from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home and from noon until the funeral hour on Sunday at the church.
