Arveda “Pat” Kelley Eckels

Services for Arveda “Pat” Kelley Eckels are 6 p.m. Monday at Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Judy Jones and Elder Terry Bernard will officiate. Interment is 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Lake Wales Florida City Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Kantz officiating. Mrs. Eckels was born June 23, 1915, in Calhoun County, W. Va., to parents Harley French Kelley and Arzona Barnes Kelley, both deceased. She married Ira Eckels Jr., who preceded her in death on May 16,1974. She retired from Highland Park Service Company as an administrative assistant. Mrs. Eckels was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lake Wales, Fla., and attended Thomasville Primitive Baptist Church. She died June 17, 2009, at Plantation Manor in Thomasville. Survivors include grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Currie (Kelley) of Washington D.C. and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pozo (Emily) of Thomasville; great-grandchildren, Mackie Currie, Sarah Currie, Isabella Pozo and Cruz Pozo; former daughter-in-law, Beth and Gene Price of Thomasville; sister, Eva Flick of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Thurl Kelley of Vincent, Ohio, and Rev. Robert C. Kelley of Columbus; sister-in-law, Arlene Kelley of Columbus; a number of nieces and nephews; and, special friends, Anne Mason and daughters of Owls Head, N.Y. She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Lee Echols, brother Harold Kelley and sisters Dorothy Eckert and Rata Hall. The family will receive friends immediately after the service on Monday at the funeral home. — Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home
