Marijean A. Eilers



A memorial service for Marijean Allsopp Eilers, 82, of Thomasville, are at 4 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2009, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The Rev. Judy Jones will officiate and interment is in All Saints Episcopal Church Columbarium in Lakeland, Fla. Mrs. Eilers died May 7, at Archbold Hospital. Born May 26, 1926, in Orlando, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Mabel and Howard Allsopp. She grew up in Lakeland, Fla., and graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon with a double major in psychology/social work. She worked for the Florida Department of Welfare in the 1960s and moved to Chicago, Ill., where she was a social worker for over 20 years at Clearbrook Center, a rehabilitation facility for handicapped individuals. Following the death of her husband, Ralph, Mrs. Eilers moved to Thomasville in 1999 and resided at Southern Pines Retirement Community. She was at one time active in the Thomasville Duplicate Bridge Club; a charter member of Chapter BJ, P.E.O. Sisterhood; a member of the Red Hat/Purple Dress Club; and a former member of the Thomasville Woman’s Club and a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Survivors include daughter, Carol Bacon Kelso of Thomasville; daughter-in-law, Joan Bacon of Wallkill, N.Y.; grandson and wife, Jared and Mandy Kelso of Atlanta; granddaughters and husbands, Rachel and Seth Dozier of Tifton, Anna and James Pettis of Macon; great-granddaughters, Mea Kelso, Lily Kelso; and great grandson, Ezra Kelso.
