Geraldine Godwin



Services for Geraldine Godwin, of Thomasville, are 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at First Newark Baptist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Steve Brooks, Rev. Johnny Cooper and Rev. Mike Keown will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are grandsons and son-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are the Mens Sunday School Class at First Newark Baptist Church. Mrs. Godwin died Jan. 23 at her residence. Born Dec. 9, 1931, in Moultrie, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Ashburn and America Jane Barwick Tucker. She was married to Lawrence Godwin, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Godwin was a machine operator and supervisor for Coats America and on a bowling team. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sherry Godwin of Thomasville; sister, Urbie Tucker Parker of Thomasville; grandchildren, Tina Godwin (Scott) DuBose, Mikie (Pamela) Godwin, Derek (Hallie) Godwin, Bo (Wendy) Harrell, Rick (Samantha) Harrell, Missy Godwin (David) McElwee, Jack Godwin, Amy Lacy and Venice Causey; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and, special friend, Bettye Williamson. She was also preceded in death by daughter Barbara Ann Godwin Harrell, son Jackie Godwin, grandson Tony Harrell, brothers Thurmon Tucker, Preston Tucker, Oliver Tucker and Odell Key, and sister Lessie Pollock Bentley. Memorials may be made to First Newark Baptist Church Building Fund, 225 Russell Road, Thomasville, Ga. 31757. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
