Edward Michael “Mike” Floyd

THOMASVILLE —

Services for Edward Michael (Mike) Floyd, 59 of Thomasville will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 8, 2013 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Robson and Rev. Gwynn Hayes will officiate and interment will be in Rosewood Cemetery in Barwick. Pallbearers will be Gene Atkinson, Dennis Atkinson, Dale Ellerbe, Chris Atkinson, Kenny Glass and Dilawar Rodrigues. Mr. Floyd passed away March 4 at his residence. Born January 24, 1954 in Thomasville he was the son of Inez Atkinson Smith, who survives.  Mike graduated from Thomasville High School in 1973 where he excelled in baseball, striking out only once in his four years of high school. He attended Georgia Southern, Southwestern Technical College and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Mike loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves; politics and spending time with his family. Other survivors include brother, John Smith and wife Diana of Tucson, AZ; sisters, Janet Knight and husband Robert and Penny Betts and husband Vic all of Thomasville; nephews and nieces, John & Shariah Smith of Tucson, AZ, Daniel Betts and Tanner Betts both of Thomasville, Penny & Kenny Glass of Moultrie, Heather & Dilawar Rodrigues of Thomasville, Julie Smith of Tucson, AZ, Denise Dukes of Thomasville and Heidi Smith of Tucson, AZ; 4 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces. He was preceded in death by father, Dale Smith and brother, Timothy Smith. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
