THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Kathryn Watkins Klenk, of Thomasville and recently of Atlanta, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on July 29, 2010 at the age of 90. She was born in Zebulon, Ga., to the late Dr. Charles Watkins and Clyde Reeves Watkins. She graduated from Talbotton High School and attended the University of Georgia. After marrying William Mayo, a prominent businessman, she lived approximately 32 years in Cairo, Ga. where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She moved to Thomasville and later married Emmett Chastain, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an avid golfer and bridge player. She later married Herbert Klenk, who preceded her in death. "Mama Kat", as her grandchildren called her, was an unconditionally loving mother, grandmother and friend to many in the community. She is survived by her three children, Max Mayo of Hilton Head, S.C., Rosanne Mayo of Forrest City, Ark., Menda Stevens of Atlanta, and husband Jim; six grandchildren, Todd Mayo (wife-Jenny) of Savannah, Katie Mayo of Hilton Head, Ashley Lowery (husband-Wesley) of Lexington, Ga., Sabrina Schuman of West Memphis, Ark., Christian Bowdoin of Atlanta, Shannon Ulmer (wife-Holly) of Frisco, Texas; seven great-grandchildren: Lara Kate, daughter of Todd and Jenny Mayo; Lucy Grace, daughter of Ashley and Wesley Lowery; Jessica and Alex Chretien, and Madison Kathryn Nobles, daughters and son of Sabrina Schuman, Ansley Lane and Greyson Lee, daughter and son of Shannon and Holly Ulmer; beloved brother, Charles Watkins Jr. and beloved sister-in-law, Betty Watkins of Virginia Beach, Va., as well as their children Elizabeth Jones of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Jane Rhodes of Chesapeake, Va.
