Oscar Spires Jr.

THOMASVILLE —

Oscar Spires, Jr., 72, of Moultrie, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 30, 2012 at Lifespring Community Church with the Rev. Julian Griner officiating.  Interment will follow in Deep Bottom Cemetery in Norman Park. Casketbearers will be Scott Spires, Clay Spires, Michael Spires, Lee Bullard, Garrett Seagroves and Steve Seagroves. Oscar Bullard will serve as an honorary casketbearer. Born June 30, 1939 in Ocilla, Ga., he was the son of the late Oscar Spires, Sr. and Nina Mae Kimbrell Spires.  He retired as Chief of Police of Norman Park, with 25 years of service.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He was involved in Norman Park Recreation for many years, coaching Little League Baseball and the girls traveling softball Dream Team. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ollie Spires; one sister, Geraldine Spires; and a granddaughter, Heather Cox. Survivors include his wife, Angie Roberts Spires of Moultrie; seven daughters, Linda Kaye Griffin of Tifton, Brenda Hart and husband Dennis of Tifton, Shari Lynn Spires of Omega, Chris Cox and husband Julius of Hartsfield, MaLena Mercer and husband Brady of Moultrie, MaLeah Seagroves and husband Steve of Jacksonville, Fla. and Tina Bullard and husband Lee of Moultrie; three sons, Scott Spires and wife Vickie of Sylvester, Clay Spires and wife Sherri of Thomasville and Michael Spires of Moultrie; four brothers, Larry Spires and wife Eugenia of Norman Park, Harry Spires and wife Madis of Berlin, Bob Spires and wife Jan of Moultrie and Jim Spires of Moultrie; three sisters, Lillie Mae Hartsfield of Omega, Wanda Lott and husband Jerry of Norman Park, Irma Jones and husband Donald of Moultrie; twenty-eight grandchildren, Oscar, Abigail and Addison Bullard, Blaine Spires, Brittany Mitchell, Justin and Haley Cox, Gracie and Garrett Seagroves, Nathan, Charles and Alana Mercer, Tonya O’Neal, Jessica Hart, Madylyn, Karlie and Dennis Hart, Jr., Tosha and Robert Pritchett, Mary and Ricky Edwards, Michaela Reilly, Alea, Kandice and Bradley Spires, Robin Griffin, Jose Moreno and Chloe Parks; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Hunner, James and Gracie Pritchett, Abigail, Maddy, Hunter and Sarah Beth Edwards, Brayden Mitchell, Jessica and Kaitlyn Gibbs; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
