Joseph Ronald Hicks

THOMASVILLE —

Joseph Ronald Hicks, age 61, passed away peacefully Monday, April 30, 2012 at his residence in Tallahassee, FL.  A celebration of his life will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2317 Bannerman Road, Tallahassee, Florida at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Ron was born October 12, 1950 in Americus, GA. He graduated from Thomasville High School in 1969, and attended Norman Park College, Georgia Southwestern College, and graduated from FSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Therapy. He was happily married August 11, 1984 in Crested Butte, CO to his loving wife, Ellen Hicks, who survives him after 28 years together. He was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Bradfordville, FL. An avid outdoorsman, he loved being self-employed as a land broker and real estate agent. Ron was an active member of both the Florida and Georgia Board of Realtors, a former member of the Cairo,G A Rotary and a member of Ducks Unliminted. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Leon Hicks Jr, and stepson, Justin Atkins. He is also survived by his mother, Amanda Wheeler Hicks, Thomasville; brothers Irvin Gregory Hicks (Carolyn) of Tallahassee, and Richard Neil Hicks of Thomasville; sister Ginger H. Barton (Charles) of Thomasville; nephews Joseph T. Hicks (Thomasville); Matthew Barton (Leslie) and Mark Barton, Houston, TX; great nephew and nieces, Gage, Addison and Ava Claire Barton of Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to In the Carpenter’s Footsteps, an outreach ministry to Costa Rica, of which he was a devoted supporter, c/o 2011 Saralee Lane, Tallahassee, FL 32312. — Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, Fla.
