MOULTRIE — A Colquitt County Jail inmate who escaped Monday after walking off an office cleaning detail was back in jail Tuesday afternoon in Florida.

Two other people also were arrested Tuesday in connection with the escape of the inmate, who apparently just walked outside to a waiting ride.

Demetrius Demario Walden, 32, was taken into custody at about 1 p.m. in Tallahassee, said Shannon Hart, a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator.

Hart said he did not know the details of the arrest or what charges will be filed against the other two people, who had not been booked into the jail as of mid-afternoon Tuesday.

Walden, who had been jailed since Nov. 14 of last year on a weapons charge, had been a trusty whose duties included cleaning the department’s administrative offices. He had freedom to walk around the building, and in this case, apparently, to walk out.

“We believe a female came up here and picked him up at the sheriff’s office,” Hart said. “All she had to do is pick him up out front and he’s gone.”

It is believed that Walden left the facility between noon and 1 p.m. Monday. An officer checking on him at about 2 p.m. realized that he was missing, officials said.

Investigators likely will file formal charges against the other two people this morning, Hart said. The Thomasville Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Office assisted in locating Walden.

Walden was arrested on Sept. 19 after a woman reported that he pointed a pistol at her during a domestic dispute in the 600 block of Third Avenue Southwest.

Kimberly Graham also reported that Walden grabbed her arm and slapped her during the incident, Moultrie Police Department reports said.

Walden, a Thomas County native, was convicted there in 2005 on charges of theft by receiving stolen property, impersonation and conspiring to traffic a controlled substance. He was in state prison from March 2006 to July 2008.

He also had been charged in Thomas County with child molestation in a case that has not been adjudicated.

The last escape at the Colquitt County Jail was in June 2009 when Anthony Moses Jordan, who was awaiting transfer to a state Department of Corrections facility after receiving two life sentences, got out after climbing onto a roof. He was recaptured three days later.
