BOSTON —  Boston Community Club is seeking applicants for the 2010 Miss Boston Pageant scheduled for Oct. 16.

"This is a wonderful annual event that helps young ladies build character and self-esteem, as well as friendships that can last a lifetime," said pageant director, Christie Smith-Thomas.

Any female, ages 4-18, with a Boston address may participate in one of the following categories:

• Wee Miss Boston for ages 3-5

• Junior Little Miss Boston for ages 6-8

• Little Miss Boston for ages 9-11

• Junior Miss Boston for ages 12-14

• Miss Boston for ages 15-18.

"It is a fun and exciting experience and we are anticipating the best pageant ever this year,” said Smith-Thomas.

Each category is determined by the age of the contestant at the time of the pageant. Rehearsals are the week before the pageant, and all contestants are required to attend.

All girls will participate in evening wear competition, and Miss Boston contestants only will also compete in sportswear, as well as an interview question.

All Wee Miss contestants will receive trophies, with winners for Junior Little Miss, Little Miss and Junior Miss receiving roses, a trophy and a crown.

In addition to roses, a trophy and crown, Miss Boston will receive a scholarship through Thomas University. First- and second-runners up also will receive scholarships through Thomas University.

Winners of this years pageant, as well as runners-up, will ride on the float in the Boston Mini-Marathon Festival Parade on Oct. 30 and represent Boston throughout the year in all area festivals and community functions.

The pageant is at 7:30 p.m. at Dixie Community Center, with last year's queens on hand to crown their successors. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per adult and $3 per student, with children under 3 admitted free.

"This year’s pageant promises to be very entertaining, and we encourage everyone to attend and support the young ladies of Boston," Smith-Thomas said.

The entry fee for all categories is $35, and the qualifying deadline is October 8.

Applications are available at Boston Main Street Cafe, Boston City Hall, Southern Bella Salon in Boston, as well as www.bostonga.com.
