THOMASVILLE —
Scammers are at it again.
Reports of two new tricks are flooding Thomas County Sheriff’s Office phones.
Citizens are receiving phone calls from people claiming to be law enforcement investigators or other types of investigators asking high-pressure questions.
“They tell people they are wanted (by law enforcement) and begin trying to get personal information and bank information,” said Capt. Steven Jones, sheriff’s office public information officer.
People also are receiving phone calls from individuals claiming to be with an insurance company and wanting to issue “new cards” to help supplement Medicare insurance.
“Never verify any information over the phone and never, ever give even the name of your bank, much less account numbers,” Jones said.
Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department spokesman, said city police have not received calls about the latest telephone scams, but also use other means to take advantage of people.
“It can be done by computer, too,” Hampton said.
