The end of an era is finally here

'Harry Potter' fans look forward to final film

THOMASVILLE — The Boy Who Lived and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named will play out their final, epic showdown as fans watch on movie screens around the world, including Thomasville, next week.

Gateway Cinemas will hold a midnight screening of the eighth and final installment in the Harry Potter film series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2,” at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 15.

Tickets are now on sale and will be on sale during regular box office hours — 11:15 a.m. to 10:35 p.m. over the next week.

Midnight screenings are selling out around the country, but Gateway Cinemas General Manager Winston Willis believes there will be plenty of seats for local Potter fans.

Though the film is available in 3D, the print at Gateway will be in standard 2D format.

The final book in the series, “Deathly Hallows,” was split into two separate films, the first of which premiered in late 2010.

As of Friday afternoon, the theater has sold approximately 20 tickets, but six days remain before the film opens to the public.

There is no limit to the number of tickets a person can purchase. Prices are $8.50 for adults and $6.50 for seniors and children, ages 3-11.

For Potter fans that want to make a night of it, Gateway Cinemas also will reshow “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1” at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Tickets are regular price and are currently available at the box office.
