THOMASVILLE —
Three local governing bodies will elect 2012 officers early this week.
At 7 p.m. Monday, Thomasville City Council members will elect a mayor and mayor pro tem to serve two-year terms.
Also on the council agenda is second reading of several ordinances, including one to adjust utility rates and another to annex and rezone property at Liberty Street and U.S. 19 South from agriculture to commercial.
Jay Flowers, who was elected in November, will be sworn in as a new council member. David Lewis, who was re-elected in November, also will be sworn in.
The meeting is at council chambers at city hall at East Jackson and Crawford streets.
On Tuesday morning, Thomas County commissioners will elect a chairman and vice chairman and appoint a county attorney to serve in 2012.
Fuel bids are to be considered for approval, and appointments to recreation and library boards are to be made.
An update of the county manager’s 2011 work plan and a draft of the 2012 plan are listed.
The 9 a.m. meeting is at Thomas County Emergency Services Center, 1202 Remington Ave.
The Thomas County Board of Education also will elect officers Tuesday at a 7 p.m. meeting at board offices at 200 N. Pine Tree Boulevard.
The board also will act on out-of-district students and fund-raising activities.
Under new business, dates for 2012 board meetings will be considered, along with a personnel report.
