THOMASVILLE —
The oldest building on the campus of Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) is getting a facelift. SWGTC decided to begin renovation on their E Building to give it a more updated look that would be consistent with other structures on campus. Not only will there be aesthetic improvements, but it will also be getting some structural and feature upgrades. Structurally the E Building will receive a new roof, new windows, and a new heating and air-conditioning system. The new windows will be double-paned energy efficient windows, which SWGTC hopes will help to reduce energy costs. They will also be adding new covered sidewalks to the sides of the building to serve as a protected walkway for students.
“We are very happy that we have the opportunity to renovate our oldest building, the E Building. This construction will help us achieve our goal of creating a unified and collegiate look campus-wide. We hope these changes will not only be aesthetically pleasing, but will also make our Technical, Industrial, and Adult Education students more comfortable while pursuing their education,” commented SWGTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.
This building, which is almost 50 years old, is the home of SWGTC’s Technical and Industrial classes as well as the Adult Education Program. These programs have been temporarily relocated to the C Building and will move back into the E Building upon completion. Local company Culpepper Construction is doing the project which the College anticipates will be completed sometime in March.
Southwest Georgia Technical College is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
