THOMASVILLE —
It might be difficult to say who was more surprised at a Wednesday night armed robbery — the victim or the bandit on whom a knife was pulled.
A 61-year-old man was cleaning at Chicken De-Lite, 508 W. Jackson St., about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday when a man wielding a revolver entered the restaurant and demanded money.
“He demanded the he give him all his money,” said Lt. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.
The victim told police that as he walked toward the robber, he grabbed a knife from a sink to defend himself. A fight ensued.
“The suspect turned and ran out of the back door of the business,” Hampton explained.
The victim chased the suspect on foot for a short distance and called 911.
The suspect was described as a black male wearing a dark-blue hoodie or jacket, a ski mask or scarf over his face and long pants, which appeared to be jeans.
The police canine unit responded, but the suspect was not located.
“It is possible that the suspect got into a vehicle,” Hampton said.
The armed robber got away, but he got away emptied-handed.
