Crocheting class offered at SWGTC

THOMASVILLE — Have you always wanted to crochet but were afraid to try? Would you like to learn a rewarding new hobby? If your answer to these questions is yes, then you should take advantage of this opportunity at Southwest Georgia Technical College. The college will be hosting a crocheting class taught by Casandra Montgomery, who has many years of experience.

Crochet is a process where yarn is turned into fabric by completing a variety of crochet stitches. The word “crochet” is from the middle French word “croc” or “crochet,” which means “hook.” Crochet stitches are completed by pulling loops of yarn following a specific sequence through a hook. By varying the type and order of those loops, a variety of different stitches can be created, and ultimately, an interesting and unique fabric.

“Crocheting is a hobby that can provide many hours of relaxation and pleasure especially for people who are seeking a way to express their creativity. Individuals who crochet are often passionate about

their hobby and enjoy creating projects which can be shared with family and friends. Many of these creations are treasured by recipients and are often proudly displayed as works of art.

“Cassandra Montgomery has many years of experience in teaching this craft and she would like to share her passion with others,” Gary Pitts, vice president of economic development.

This class, as well as other personal enrichment courses, is offered through the SWGTC Office of Economic Development. The crochet class will be held on July 9, 16, 23 and 30 and Aug. 6. Cost is $50. For more information on the class or to register, contact Ruby Barron at (229) 225-2579.

Southwest Georgia Technical College is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
