THOMASVILLE —
Short of a merger of Thomasville city and Thomas County fire protection agencies, Thomasville Mayor Max Beverly sees no red lines on the community fire protection map.
Beverly said “red lines” on a map of the community often mean the end of fire protection services by one of the agencies.
Beverly would like to see a city/county fire protection agreement in place before the end of the year.
The details should be worked out by city and county fire chiefs and the consultant now working with Thomasville Fire Rescue and Thomas County Fire Department.
During a Tuesday Thomas County Commission meeting — at which the board purchased three new fire trucks and approved purchasing four more — Commissioner Merrill Baker said several people have asked him in recent days why the community has two fire departments.
Baker told fellow commissioners he did not have an answer.
