SWGTC’s renovations to oldest building now complete

THOMASVILLE — Renovations to the oldest building on Southwest Georgia Technical College’s campus were recently completed. This project began in August 2011 after SWGTC completed their new Health Science

Building in July. The College decided to begin renovation on their E Building to give it a more updated look, one which is consistent with other structures on campus. Not only have they made aesthetic improvements, but the renovations also included structural and feature upgrades. This building, known as the “E Building,” received a new roof, new windows, new lighting and a new heating and air-conditioning system. The new windows are double-paned energy efficient windows, which SWGTC implemented with hopes of reducing energy costs. New covered sidewalks were also added to the sides of the building to serve as a protected walkway for students.

“We are very happy that we’ve had the opportunity to renovate our oldest building, the E Building. This construction has helped us achieve our goal of creating a unified and collegiate look campus-wide. These changes are not only aesthetically pleasing, but will also make our Technical, Industrial, and Adult Education students more comfortable while pursuing their education,” commented SWGTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.

This building, which is almost 50 years old, is the home of SWGTC’s Technical and Industrial classes, as well as the Adult Education Program. These programs, which have been housed in the C Building during the renovation, have now moved into their permanent and newly- improved home. Local company Culpepper Construction completed the project and is doing their final walk-through with College administrators next week.

Southwest Georgia Technical College is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
