THOMASVILLE —
The new year has arrived and new projects are on the drawing board for Pebble Hill Plantation.
“I am particularly excited about our first new project this year we are calling ‘A Pebble Hill Homecoming,’” said Wallace Goodman, director of Pebble Hill Plantation. “In addition to our Main House, all of the exciting sporting art, animals and architecturally significant buildings we have at PHP, we also consider Pebble Hill Plantation to be a repository of the history of Pebble Hill Plantation and life in the Red Hills.”
Thomas Jefferson Johnson, one of the founders of Thomas County, is buried in the cemetery at Pebble Hill.
“A Pebble Hill Homecoming” is an effort by the staff of PHP to invite people who have some kind of connection to the history of Pebble Hill to have their stories recorded and later the recorded stories transcribed into print.
Goodman said,” We would like to have the opportunity to talk with people who knew the family, anyone who came to Pebble Hill to shoot, perhaps someone will read this who attended a party at Pebble Hill.
“We would like to cover all aspects of life at Pebble Hill Plantation.”
The people who worked at Pebble Hill are a natural for this project since they were involved in the daily life of one of the most historic plantations in the United States.
Goodman expects this to be an ongoing project. It will kickoff on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Uno Hill Barn.
To participate, call Pebble Hill at 229-227-5390 and a time will be scheduled for you to record your history. Pebble Hill is asking participants to make an appointment for their recording on the Jan. 29.
See Sunday's edition for more details.
