THOMASVILLE —
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, many teachers are looking for new opportunities for professional development. Thomasville Landmarks’ Summer Workshop for Educators is a unique way for teachers to explore their local community, develop relevant lesson plans for the classroom and earn three SDU/PLU credits towards state certification. The workshop empowers educators to learn about and connect with the rich history and heritage of Thomas County and share these experiences with their students.
From June 18-22, teachers and paraprofessionals from area schools can join Thomasville Landmarks in a free, week-long workshop, entitled Land Between Two Rivers, which highlights the history, heritage and cultural sites of the Red Hills Region. Educators will have an opportunity to visit the Thomas County Museum of History, The Old Cemetery, Tall Timbers Research Station, Birdsong Nature Center, Jack Hadley Black History Museum and more. In addition, area professionals will address the group to discuss architecture, downtown development, and local historic districts.
The workshop provides an opportunity for educators to use historic maps, photographs and documents; and to create lesson plans and projects that can be used in their classroom. Each participant will receive a workshop packet filled with resources and ideas on how to incorporate heritage and history into the K-12 curriculum.
See Thursday's edition for more details.
