Metcalf society nearing its goal

THOMASVILLE — The homestretch is in sight as the Metcalfe Heritage Society (MHS) is one step closer to reaching its goal.

By Nov. 15, it is hoping to have raised the remaining $6,700 of the Williams Foundation Challenge Grant to begin the preservation effort in downtown Metcalfe by the beginning of late spring 2013.

MHS secured a $150,000 Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for the restoration of downtown Metcalfe months ago. The grant is for infrastructure work, meaning trees, streetlights and benches are not included.
