THOMASVILLE —
Some City of Thomasville Neighborhood Improvement Project events are taking place today.
The first event is the NIP Community Fair, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., held behind Scott Senior Center.
“This is an annual event that plays host to several departments and organizations throughout our community,” Communications Officer Greg Lawrence said.
The organizations include but are not limited to: Thomasville Fire Rescue, Department of Labor, Thomasville YMCA, Southwest Georgia Technical College, Boys and Girls Club, Thomasville Utilities and CNS, Thomasville Police Department, and other local businesses.
Activities and available information include: blood pressure screenings, fire prevention information, K-9 demonstration, GED info from SWGTC, job placement assistance, YMCA program information, and children’s fingerprinting cards.
There will be food and games as well.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The second event is the “NIP Free Garbage Drop-off.”
This event began Aug. 23 and concludes today.
“The aim for this event is to give citizens an easy opportunity to safely dispose of household ‘junk’ such as old appliances, furniture and any other items around their home or yard that are in need of disposal,” Lawrence said.
There are three locations where citizens can drop off their garbage items: Webster Street (between Oak Street and Stevens Street), Stevens Street (behind Holton’s Garage) and Oak Street (across from Good Shepherd Church).
