THOMASVILLE —
Long-awaited Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants will open on U.S. 19 South in December.
On Thursday morning, workers poured concrete for sidewalks at the site.
The project is a $1.3 million Darden Restaurants investment in the community, according to the building permit issued by the City of Thomasville in mid-April.
The 9,315-square-foot structure is being constructed on a 2.5-acre tract near Longhorn Steakhouse, also a restaurant owned by Orlando, Fla.-based Darden.
The Red Lobster/Olive Garden setup will have separate dining rooms that will provide seating for 200.
The restaurants will employ about 185, said Rich Jeffers, Darden director of communications.
Ventura Construction at Norcross is the general contractor.
“It’s scheduled to be turned over to them (Darden) on Oct. 29, and they’re going to open Dec. 10,” Duane Furnish, project superintendent, said Thursday morning.
