THOMASVILLE —
In the Spoken Language Contest at Darton College in Albany on April 14, all five students from Brookwood School who competed won top awards.
Recipients of the highest accolade, the Blue Ribbon for Superior Performance in Spoken Language, are Allison Stauffer for Spanish 2, Olivia Howell for Spanish 3 and Emily Drew for Spanish 4.
Hunter Avera in Spanish 2 and Carter Reed in Spanish 3 won Red Ribbons for Excellence in Spoken Language.
High school teachers or college professors engaged the students in conversation from 10-16 minutes, depending on the course level. Teachers could enter a limit of two students per course level from the competing schools.
Sandra L. Hunt, Brookwood Spanish instructor and department chair, served as a judge for students from other schools.
“The length of the conversations does not seem like a long time, but it most assuredly is when it comes to non-stop conversation between two people,” Hunt said.
“I was told that the Brookwood kids were ‘awesome,’” said Hunt proudly.
