City BOE approves budget

THOMASVILLE — Final approval of the Thomasville City Schools fiscal year 2012 budget was given at the Thomasville City Board of Education’s Tuesday meeting.

The approved budget is $21,097,853 in estimated revenues and $23,188,242 in estimated expenditures.

The $2,090,389 difference will be made up using system reserves, which will leave an expected fund balance of $1,533,171 as of June 30, 2012.

“We tentatively approved the FY 2012 budget in May and gave final approval of it last night,” board member George Lilly, who seconded the motion to approve, told the Times-Enterprise Wednesday.

“The only amendment was the inclusion of the Title 1 budget, which was actually embedded in the budget tentatively approved in May.”

The estimated budget for the system’s Title 1 supplemental program is $1,411,114.

Cheryl Hay, assistant superintendent for Title 1 programs, explained funds “can’t replace basic funding” but can be used to go “above and beyond” to provide instructional support for students.
