THOMASVILLE — Several departmental budget requests were addressed at Monday’s called meeting of the Grady County Board of Commissioners.
These included supplemental pay for two retired superior court judges, vehicles for the sheriff’s office, software for probate court, office renovation for the clerk of court, and a request to pay health insurance for a part-time volunteer fire department coordinator position.
County Administrator Rusty Moye asked the board for guidance on the requests.
“This budget is tighter when it comes down to the spending and, if there is any cushion, I don’t know where it is,” he told the board.
County Attorney Kevin Cauley said he researched the request for supplemental pay to the retired judges and the county is not obligated to pay it.
The county paid supplements in the past but stopped after it found out this was not required, officials said.
“The oldest system mandated a county supplement but it is not mandated anymore and neither of these judges are retired under the system that mandated it,” Cauley said.
The majority of the commissioners were opposed to the request, or to the full request.
