THOMASVILLE —
Some of the silver flatware stolen from an elderly Thomasville couple’s home was recovered. Some had been melted before victims realized the silver was missing.
A 44-year-old woman has been charged with felony theft by taking in the case. Ursual Wuerner, 727 Young St., was arrested Thursday night at her residence.
A member of the victims’ family contacted Thomas County Sheriff Carlton Powell Thursday night when the items were discovered missing from the residence in the 100 block of Pastime Drive.
The victims told investigators the only other person who had been in the house was Wuerner, who had been hired as a caretaker.
“We found the pieces of missing silver on her kitchen counter,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator.
Wuerner told investigators she was cleaning the silver for the owners.
“She later admitted she had taken it, because she had fallen on hard times and needed money,” Watkins said.
The suspect had sold some of the missing sliver. “It had been melted,” the investigator explained.
A bracelet stolen from the residence also was sold and melted, Watkins said.
Wuerner posted a $5,100 bond Friday afternoon and was released from the Thomas County Jail.
